What hand painted canvas backdrops can I hire at The Dale Studio?

We have 22 hand-painted canvas backdrops in a range of colours and sizes. Large foldable canvases (3 m x 4.5 m) include Bridesmaid, Petal, Peach, Stormy, Frappe, Yearbook, Levi, Daintree, and Hershey at $225 per day. Medium foldable canvases (3 m x 3 m) include Parchment, Shady, and Pickled at $175 per day. Roll canvases range from the 3.2 m x 5 m Midnight at $180 per day down to small 1.8 m x 1.8 m options like Azure and Lemon at $25 per day.

How much does it cost to hire a hand painted backdrop in Sydney?

Canvas backdrop hire starts from $25 per day for small formats (Pond, Azure, Lemon) and goes up to $225 per day for large 3 m x 4.5 m foldable canvases. Medium roll canvases (1.9 m x 2.8 m) are $75 per day. We also have velvet curtain backdrops at $50 per day and printed fabric drops at $15 per day. All prices include GST.

What sizes are available for canvas backdrop hire?

Our hand-painted canvas backdrops come in six size options: 3 m x 4.5 m (large foldable), 3 m x 3 m (medium foldable), 3.2 m x 5 m (our largest, Midnight), 3.8 m x 4.5 m (Dragon), 3 m x 4 m (Pool), 1.9 m x 2.8 m (Ash, Smoke, Denim), 1.6 m x 2.8 m (Borealis), 1.2 m x 2.4 m (Pond), and 1.8 m x 1.8 m square (Azure, Lemon).

What is the difference between foldable and roll canvas backdrops?

Foldable backdrops (marked with an asterisk on our page) fold into carry bags for easy transport but need to be carefully steamed once mounted to remove creases. Roll backdrops come on sturdy cardboard tubes and hang crease-free straight out of the tube. Foldable canvases are available in 3 m x 4.5 m and 3 m x 3 m sizes. All other sizes are rolls.

Can I hire canvas backdrops for use off-site?

Yes. All our canvas and fabric backdrops are available for off-site hire. Pick up from our Chippendale studio. If you need mounting equipment for your location, add the Mounting Bundle ($50) which includes 2 C-stands, 2 shot bags, and clamps. Mounting equipment is free to use inside the studio.

Do you have velvet curtain backdrops for hire?

Yes. We have three velvet curtain sets at $50 per day each: Crimson Velvet (2.4 m x 2.5 m x 2 panels), Emerald Velvet (2.4 m x 2.5 m x 2 panels), and Midnight Velvet (2.7 m x 2.5 m x 2 panels). Crimson and Emerald are eyelet-mounted, and Midnight is clamp-mounted. All sets are for theatrical, editorial, and portrait shoots.

Do you have budget-friendly printed backdrops?

Yes. We have three printed fabric backdrops at $15 per day each: Fog (1.5 m x 1.9 m, light grey), Sky (1.5 m x 1.9 m, sky blue), and Tropicana (1.5 m x 3 m, tropical). These are ideal for smaller shoots or when you want a lo-fi, textured look on a tighter budget.

What is the backdrop of the month at The Dale Studio?

Our current backdrop of the month is Yearbook, a 3 m x 4.5 m hand-painted foldable canvas in muted blue-grey tones. Classic, crisp, and nostalgic with a timeless school-day charm. $225 per day. We rotate the featured backdrop regularly.

Do foldable canvas backdrops need steaming?

Yes. Foldable backdrops are stored folded in carry bags, so they will have creases when you unpack them. Steam the canvas carefully once it is mounted on the stands to get a smooth, crease-free surface. A garment steamer works well. Allow 10 to 15 minutes before your shoot starts.

What mounting equipment do I need for a canvas backdrop?

You need at least 2 C-stands with boom arms and clamps or pegs to hang the canvas. We offer a Mounting Bundle for $50 per day that includes 2 C-stands, 2 shot bags, and clamps. This equipment is free to use inside The Dale Studio. For off-site shoots, add the bundle to your booking.

What is the damage policy for hired backdrops?

If you receive a backdrop with any existing damage, text us a photo immediately. If you do not report it, you may be responsible for repairs. Hand-painted canvases are delicate and expensive to repair. Avoid contact with liquids, makeup, and sharp objects. Damages that occur during your hire will incur a repair or replacement charge.

Can I see the backdrops before booking?

Yes. You are welcome to visit our Chippendale studio to see the backdrops in person. Each backdrop on our website also has multiple reference photos showing the colour, texture, and how it looks when mounted. Check the image gallery for each backdrop on our Backdrops page.

What day hire means for backdrop rental?

A day hire runs from 3 pm the day before your shoot until 10 am the day after. You pick up the afternoon before and return the morning after. Use outside these hours may incur an additional day hire charge.

All listings contain information about ‘transport length’. it is your responsibility to check this length against the size of your car/van. We are not responsible for an undersized vehicle.
Delivery not available
Not all backdrops are available for full-length shoots. This means that not all backdrops are permitted to be stood on. If you are wanting to use a backdrop as flooring, or have a swing, please let us know and we can help you find the backdrop that best suits you.
Any damage to the backdrops in studio or off-site will be charged accordingly, including up to the cost of full replacement. It is your responsibility to look after the backdrops at all times.
