Lesson One: Mastering the Foundations
Lighting setups, control, and shaping with RGB tools
Learn how to shoot with 1, 2, 3 and 4-light setups for high-impact portrait work
Explore light placement, shaping techniques, and colour pairings for mood
Get familiar with the Nanlink app and learn how to easily program and control your lighting setups
Hands-On Activities:
4-point light setup for flexibility and intense colour play
Lesson Two: Expanding the Look
From technical to creative — pushing boundaries with colour and shape
Build on the setups from Lesson One with more stylised lighting
Learn how to use shape, placement and colour layering to craft creative visuals
Work with bold colour backgrounds, graphic light placement, and play with a heap of tubes

Daniel Sommer
Dan is a portrait and headshot photographer with over 15 years of experience, specialising in capturing striking, professional imagery. As a seasoned educator, he has hosted lighting and portrait workshops across Australia and Europe.
Dan is also the co-owner of The Dale Studio, a creative space dedicated to providing affordable professional studio spaces in Central Sydney.
